HIGHLIGHT ON: Ruth and S. Joseph Begun
Legacy Fund
A legacy fund has been established in recognition of Ruth and S. J. Begun, for their quarter of a century efforts and contributions in the field of social well being and violence prevention. This fund will support continued work toward addressing the mission of the Society for Prevention of Violence through curriculum development, teacher training, on-site school demonstration projects, and pertinent research, in conjunctions with major Ohio universities and with collaborating organizations.
Semi (Joe) and Ruth, came to this country in the late 1930’s. Both contributed to the advancement of this country – Semi Begun as an inventor (Inventor’s Hall of Fame, ‘94), engineer, and entrepreneur and Ruth as a physicist with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Later, they were founders of the Society and contributed much to education through the sponsorship of teacher training, workshops, social and violence prevention curricula and underwriting of projects of direct service to students in classrooms. Their generosity to the private and public sectors cannot be overlooked. Your generous contribution will ensure the Society’s ability to continue the development of curriculum, expansion of professional educator workshops, implement projects for students and to further advance the mission of the Society.
Donor/Membership Drive
(June 1, 2013 – December 31, 2013)
The annual Society for Prevention of Violence “Donor/ Membership Drive” will be held from April 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012. Please support the SPV mission to reduce the violent and asocial behaviors of students and adults through education. The need to act proactively has never been greater in the schools and communities. Spv needs your support to continue the school programs that are research based and have measurable outcomes. In addition, the expanded workshop offerings are helping teaching staff address the SPV mission in the schools and classrooms.
